Hassan v. NYPD

About

In August of 2011, the Associated Press published leaked documents that revealed a vast program of surveillance by the NYPD, carried out by a secret “demographics” unit and targeting Muslim communities in and around New York City. For years, officers and informants had been spying on hundreds of mosques, students groups, and Muslim-owned businesses, solely on the basis of religion or ethnicity. HASSAN V. NYPD tells the dramatic story of how eleven New Jersey plaintiffs — a group of imams, college students, business owners, school teachers, and a U.S. army sergeant — come together to stand up to the NYPD in a critical fight for equal protection under the law and Constitution.
